For the last 19 years, the Las Vegas Rotary Club has helped hundreds of disadvantaged Las Vegas children by sponsoring a program called Santa Clothes. On the first Thursday in December, Rotarians and Interact Club members (comprised of high school students) take over 300 underprivileged children shopping for much-needed clothing and shoes at three J.C. Penney stores.

McNair & Associates President, Sharon McNair, is a current member and former president of the Las Vegas Rotary Club. Every year, Sharon and her staff donate their time by working closely with the J.C. Penney cashiers to ensure each child receives the $200 worth of clothing and shoes afforded to them by Santa Clothes. After a fun-filled day of shopping, the children are transported to UNLV where they are given a pizza party, a Christmas gift and the opportunity to hear a UNLV coach discuss the importance of getting a good education.

Sharon shares what Santa Clothes means to her entire staff, “It is such a rewarding experience to be a part of such a worthwhile cause and to see the happiness on the faces of the children! The entire McNair & Associates team is so happy to participate in Santa Clothes and feel it is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season.”

Although over 300 underprivileged children benefit from this effort, there are so many more in need throughout Las Vegas and the state of Nevada. Recent statistics shared by the Children’s Defense Fund show that 24% of Nevadan youth (or a total of 156,523 children) live in poverty, which exceeds the national average. According to a 2014 Kids Count report, the number of children in Nevada living in poverty has climbed 8.4% since 2007.

With so many children struggling to have their basic needs met, Santa Clothes and similar charitable projects serve as an irreplaceable blessing for those in need throughout our communities. Whether volunteering at a soup kitchen, donating to a toy drive or just spending time with those seeking support, giving back is a great way to embrace the holiday spirit

From our family to yours, McNair & Associates wish you a happy and safe holiday season!
